Sometimes called SEN, this means that a child has needs that are different from, or additional to, the majority of children of their age, and that they need extra help at school to achieve their full potential. This could be for a number of reasons and we will support these needs in a variety of ways.

Under the Equality Act 2010 a disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities. At Krishna Avanti Primary School, Croydon we aim to consider the individual needs of each child and work together to provide the correct support. This could be for a short period, or for longer. Not all children with SEN are disabled, and not all disabled children have SEN. Initially contact the class teacher to discuss any concerns • The school assesses pupil’s needs using: ▫ Assessment Data ▫ Transition information ▫ Parental Input ▫ Teacher observations

• Class teacher • Scaffolded high quality teaching in lessons (Wave 1) • Targeted support in class (Wave 2) • Small group intervention work involving specialised lessons from Teaching Assistants (Wave 3)

• Tracking and reporting data from termly PIPs • Parents’ meetings and consultations • Regular contact with class teacher or SEND team • Annual Review for pupils with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan

• Regular assessment • Planning and scaffolding by subject teachers and leaders • Pastoral mentoring • Monitoring of progress

• Class teacher • PHSE programme • Positive relationships with parents, college and students • Mentoring • Wider outcomes: extracurricular activities • Yoga • Meditation

• As all teachers are teachers of SEND, they will have access to appropriate and regular training • Avanti Institute CPD including SEND input

• Parental Consultation • Contact with SEND team, where appropriate

• Appropriate provision and reasonable adjustments will be made where necessary • Medical support in place where necessary
